The new issue of Rolling Stone offers some insight into what has lead to Britney Spears’ downward spiral.

Among the revelations:

• As a teen, the singer’s mother, Lynne, allowed her to get breast implants. But after going under the knife, “she regretted the implants, particularly because her chest was still growing,” a friend says. “When her natural breasts became larger, she had the implants removed.” But Spears kept the surgery a secret. Adds the friend, “When other girls did their boobs [they admitted it] and moved on, but Britney was brought up to lie about herself.”

• The singer never bonded with her father Jamie, mostly because of his heavy drinking. “It was upsetting for Britney Spears to be around her dad,” a pal tells Rolling Stone. “He came backstage one night, and he was wasted. She was devastated. Britney would tell friends that her father was emotionally abusive.”

• Throughout her career, she lobbied ” to appear sluttier,” the magazine claims, to appear more mature. (As a kid, her parents let her walk around the house naked, Rolling Stone reports.) “Every girl in America was wearing crop tops and booty shorts, and Britney felt like she was being held back,” says a friend. “She would joke about wanting to do videos topless.”

• Darrin Henson, who was the choreographer for several videos from Britney’s first album, says: “Britney would come offstage after performing in front of 15 to 16,000 people and start crying because she thought she was terrible. The girl doesn’t know who she is.”

• She reportedly began sleeping with Wade Robson around the time of the 2001 VMAs. “In February 2002, Timberlake discovered a … note from Robson in Britney’s room. Britney and Timberlake were performing on Saturday Night Live that night, and they sat backstage miserable — he refused to accept her apologies,” an insider says. “The breakup was a terrible shock, particularly as it was followed by Britney’s parents divorce two months later.”

• Sam Lutfi — who was recently slapped with a restraining order— tells the magazine he may pen a book based on his troubled days with the singer. “You know, this is so much more than a magazine article — we’ve been doing dictation, she’s been telling me her story, and I’ve been writing it all down. It would make a great book!” Lutfi says.

• Britney Spears has been classified as “G.D.” — Gravely Disabled. That basically means that she is unable to take care of basic needs, such as the acquisition of food, clothing or shelter.

• Up until now Britney’s close pal Sam Lufti was calling the shots, but Jamie Spears, accompanied by ex-wife Lynne, took the matter to court and he was granted temporary legal control over their daughter in an emergency hearing on Friday. 

• The powers granted to Jamie Spears, which last until a Monday hearing, allow him to restrict and limit visitors to his daughter, control over her financial assets as well as the right to employ security guards to protect her.

• Brit had a screaming British fit in the hospital when she heard the news: “I’m so sick of all of this they can have the goddamn house and stick it up their f**king asses. Actually, no they can’t,” she screamed (about her parents) in a call put to the UCLA Psych Ward.
• K-Fed is “worried” about Brit and feels that the psychiatric hospital is the best place for her right now. He “doesn’t want her to get out until she’s made progress” says a source close to him. “He wants her to be in their sons’ lives. He wants them to have a loving relationship. He wants her to get healthy so she can be the mother they need and deserve,” adds a friend.
• Looks like K-Fed’s wish may be granted as news has it that Britney’s stay at the psych ward could be extended by 14 days. 
• A restraining order requested by her father will be keeping Sam Lufti away for 22 days. Sam didn’t react too well: “Oh boy, her family is crazy! It’s funny because that’s what the doctors say when they meet the family. They always come back and say, ‘You know, [her problems] are inherited, right?’ It’s just so sad. It’s shared equally from both of her parents.”

It happened again late last night: Britney Spears was shuttled to the hospital - this time to UCLA Medical Center - in an ambulance surrounded by police and paparazzi. Fortunately things went down differently for the pop princess’ second hospital stint, dare we even say calmly. Brit’s new psychiatrist set off the chain of events, which had apparently been planned for days, after he determined that her behavior was reckless (driving around like a lunatic in a pink wig) and deteriorating (not sleeping since Saturday. Saturday!!!).

He called the police and paramedics, who knew of the plan beforehand and referred to Britney in code, calling her “The Package.” Britney was extremely calm during the entire thing, making herself hot chocolate and waiting in silence. Her mom, however, apparently freaked out, and there is allegedly major tension between the family and Sam Lutfi, who orchestrated the whole event.

Also on the scene: cousin Alli Sims, an aunt, Britney’s dad Jamie, and her bizarre paparazzi-boyfriend Adnan Ghalib.

Britney is now currently at the hospital (where she’s been allowed smoking breaks) under a 72-hour hold, and could be kept as long as 14 days. There’s allegedly some drama between her family and Sam over who gets to make the medical decisions for Brit, as she had her lawyers draft up papers after her last hospital stint that puts Lutfi in charge of her medical decisions. Apparently Brit’s dad blew up at Sam and accused him of trying to control Brit’s life.

The same day that is wife filed for separation, photogapher Adnan Ghalib took to the airways Tuesday to discuss his relationship with Britney Spears.

Despite reports of a split – and seemingly false claims that Brit had taken out a restraining order against him – Adnan told Entertainment Tonight and The Insider that the relationship is “far from over.” (Indeed, the two were spotted together that night.)

He also insisted that he wasn’t paid for the two-part interview and that he didn’t get involved with Britney as a way to sell pictures. “No, never,” he said. “In time I think people will understand that.” Asked if he wants to marry Britney, the paparazzo, 35, responded, “I’d be lying if I said no.”

This news comes after sources confirm that not only have Britney and her legal team called an emergency hearing for Wednesday morning at L.A. Superior Court, but that the embattled pop star has agreed to undergo a psychiatric evaluation. Brit has refused several times in the past to an evaluation, and is agreeing only on the grounds that she be allowed to visit with her boys, Sean Preston and Jayden James, during the evaluation. Brit is reportedly asking that the visitation be court-supervised and that it take place in a “therapeutic environment.”

But until she has her boys back in her arms, it looks like she’ll be hugging Adnan. Around 6:00pm PT on Tuesday, the pair were spotted leaving Taverna Tony’s restaurant in Malibu. Hand-in-hand, they jumped into Britney’s white Mercedes and off down the coast back toward L.A., smooching all the while.

Meanwhile, as of 7:30 p.m. PT, the odd couple has been holed up on the 8th floor of the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills. Perhaps the pair were watching Adnan on TV?

UPDATE: Britney Spears’ attempt to regain visitation rights has been denied! No changes have been made. K-Fed maintains sole custody of Sean Preston and Jayden James.
