It’s been just a month since Britney Spears and Adnan Ghalib first spent a night together in a L.A. hotel, but their romance appears to be over.

Celebrity news agency X17 is claiming that Britney’s sometime manager and pal Sam Lutfi showed the agency’s photographers a copy of Britney’s restraining order against Adnan last night. The LAPD has told PageSix that no restraining order has been officially filed, but that doesn’t mean Brit hasn’t started the paperwork.

“All I can say is that I have not been in contact with Britney since early Friday morning. The reason being, that I have had to attend a family funeral in Santa Barbara. My phone has been off during this time out of respect for my family,” said Adnan regarding the recent news. “I am only now becoming aware of what is being said. I hope to be back home in Los Angeles soon and to be in contact with Miss Spears,” he adds.

Over the past week or so Adnan — who has earned his expertise in weaponry fighting abroad in Afghanistan, Kosovo and Macedonia — has been acting more bodyguard than boyfriend. The last time they were seen together was on Wednesday when a confrontation erupted at the Gaucho Grill in L.A. where Adnan allegedly threw chairs across the restaurant on the poptard’s behalf.

With that said, we’re pretty sure he won’t be happy to know that Brit disavowed him. Or at least the British chick possessing Britney Spears has. When asked by a photographer on Sunday if she has a message for Adnan, the alleged singer responded in a British accent:

“I don’t know who that is… I have never met him before.” The remark, which the person formerly known as Britney made outside of the Millennium Dance Studio in Burbank, fueled rumors of their breakup.

Of course, she could just be bipolar and crazy. You have to watch for yourself to appreciate it fully:

Britney Spears has a new accessory to go with her pink wig: a British accent.

In the last several weeks, Spears, 26, has been videotaped numerous times trading her Louisiana twang for U.K. inflections.

“She had the English accent thing going the whole time” while shopping at Kitson last Thursday, according to a source. “It didn’t stop.”

Even when angry, the accent appears. On an L.A. shopping trip to Macy’s on Jan. 13, she screamed at the paparazzi, “Get out of my G—— face!” – in a British accent.

So is it all in fun or has she flipped her pink wig?

“When someone has dissociative identity disorder” – formerly known as multiple personality disorder – “each identity is split off from the other,” says L.A. psychologist Renee A. Cohen, who is not treating Spears. “Each identity would have its own name, memories, behavioral traits and emotional characteristics.”

Cohen says the critical question is: “When Britney uses the British accent, or appears to take on another identity, does she know she’s Britney Spears?”

“Otherwise, she could simply be behaving this way for attention, for sympathy, or any other reason,” adds Cohen. “It’s foolish to attempt to diagnose her without a formal evaluation.”

One possible influence could be Spears’s maternal grandmother, Lilian Bridges, who was originally from England. Also, Spears’s new beau, photographer Adnan Ghalib, grew up in Birmingham, England.

According to paparazzi who trail the singer around the clock, one thing is for sure: the pink wig means something’s changing.  “When she puts on the pink wig, you just know something crazy is about to happen,” said one paparazzo.

Since today is all about babies – from Nicole’s to Christina’s, we thought we’d share a few pictures of the two unfortunate Hollywood kids we have always had a soft spot for. Just weeks before her recent hospital trip, Britney Spears sat with Sean Preston and one-year-old Jayden James for their first ever photo shoot together.

“She was very loving,” says photographer, Dani Brubaker. “She told me she loved her children and that they are her life.” He adds: “I’m told that when she saw the photographs she literally cried for over an hour and stared at them all night long.”

Meanwhile, a friend of Britney’s tells the tabloid that the embattled mom would say goodbye to the music industry if it wasn’t for her boys.  “The only reason she’s doing this is because she wants them to look up to her onstage and be like, ‘That’s my mama,’ and be proud of her,” dishes Brit’s bud. “She’d put her life before them and die for Jayden and Preston. They’re her whole world. Britney has always said, ‘I would die for my boys if that’s what it took to prove I loved them. I’d do anything for them.’ ”

Law enforcement sources have spoken about the craziness in Britney Spears’ house - profanity, nudity, drugs and wild mood swings - last Thursday.

According to TMZ, sources say when the authorities arrived, Britney was holed up in the master bathroom with Jayden James. Officers saw Britney from the backyard holding Jayden, who did not appear to be upset.

Britney refused to come out for nearly three hours. When she finally emerged, sources report, all she was wearing was panties. Interesting, since she often wears plenty of clothing, but no underwear.

Spears was incoherent, screaming, “What the f*%k are you doing in my house? I know who you are… I don’t need your f*%king help. You will do as I say!”Spears eventually put on a see-through nightgown. Cops wanted to cover her with a sweater, but she screamed, “Don’t cover me up. I’m f*%king hot!”

Britney’s assistant said Spears had been “popping pills” all day. Her code for medication was “vitamins.” Officers found Prozac in her bedroom.

Sam Lutfi arrived and said he and others around Britney Spears “knew this was coming for a long time,” but didn’t know how bad it would get. According to Sam Lutfi, Britney is so unstable, she recently bought a house in Malibu on a whim, began moving furniture in… then changed her mind.

Spears’ nanny told cops that Britney would often dress up to the nines - for no reason. She would walk around the house, then change back.

Earlier that day, Spears was unworried about attending her deposition with Mark Vincent Kaplan and would not heed warnings to show up on time. Police will testify about the insanity at Monday’s custody hearing - a make or break day for Britney Spears if she ever wants to see her kids.

Things seem to be getting serious between Britney and Adnan. The odd couple spent a brief Mexican holiday together, checking into a hotel in Rosarito Beach and buying a knockoff Gucci purse, according to a local press report.  Ghalib’s own photo agency, Finalpixx, has been photographing the pair’s Mexican activities and here’s what they had to say:

“Britney Spears and Adnan Ghalib are happily dating. (The agency notes that Ghalib “is married but has been separated from his wife for over a year.”) “After being released from the hospital Britney and Adnan spent the night and the following days together resting, eating, sleeping, shopping and talking about life and the love they have for their families,” Finalpixx says, adding that Ghalib, himself, has not spoken publicly because it would “not be of benefit to her for him to do so.”
