His popularity has waned considerably in the United States, but it seems Michael Jackson still has some currency in Japan.

Jackson arrived in Tokyo on Sunday, his second visit in recent years, to hold court at an exclusive party where admirers will fork over $3,500 US to spend as little as 30 seconds in his company.

Sporting his usual dark sunglasses along with a black leather jacket, Jackson was greeted by hundreds of fans Sunday afternoon at Narita airport. On Thursday he will attend the party where guests get 30 seconds to one minute each of exclusive face time with the 48-year-old pop music star.

It saddens us to report that Michael Jackson’s so called comeback was a big disappointment. He did NOT perform “Thriller,” as promised, and instead sang a few lines of “We Are the World” while R&B star Chris Brown, backed by dozens of dancers in zombie make-up, opened for Michael with rendition of “Thriller.” People reports:

After an hour of the crowd’s waiting and anticipating, Jackson, 48, finally came on stage to accept the Diamond Award from Beyonce, who said: “If it wasn’t for Michael Jackson, I would have never, ever performed. He has made such an impact on my life and every performer’s life. Michael Jackson, I love you!”

Driven to the stage in a blacked-out Mercedes surrounded by more than 20 security guards, Jackson grasped the award but had to wait for the crowd’s screams to die down before he could be heard.

“There have been so many who have loved me and stood by me throughout my 42 years I have been part of this business,” he said. “I would like to thank my wonderful children, Paris, Prince, and Blanket, for their unconditional love and support.”

Jackson then disappeared off stage, leaving R&B star Chris Brown to perform his version of “Thriller,” backed by a dozen zombie dancers.

It was past 10:30 p.m. by the time Jackson finally performed his few lines, of “We Are The World,” backed by a group of young children. Observers noted he failed to hit some of the higher notes.

Michael Jackson, The King Of Pop, is currently in London getting ready to take the world by storm with his plans to recreate a spectacular live version of Thriller at tomorrow’s World Music Awards.

MJ has taken up two floors of the uber luxurious Hempel Hotel at a cost of almost £75,000.

His 25-person entourage includes his three children Paris, Prince Michael and Prince Michael II. He also demanded that all the candles be removed from his children’s room so not to put them at risk of fire. Complimentary chocolates had to go out the window too because the protective father doesn’t want his children eating junk food.

While it’s nice to see Michael out and about, the real question is…can he live up to our expectations tomorrow? We personally feel he can. MJ will always remain the King of Pop in our book. The reason being, despite what personal issues the man may have encountered, it still hasn’t stopped him from outselling his peers Justin Timberlake and Usher to name a few who try their hardest to mimic his likeness. We can’t wait for Michael to further illuminate his permanent status as the “King of Pop!”
